      I was able

to complete the process with very little problem this morning. Only slow down was my failure to check spam box in email for the temp password for a while until I remembered reading about that on the web page. With my EA# and my EFIN all went through and assigned my old number.

        I signed up yesterday!

I had no problems and was given my old PTIN and received confirmation right away. No hassles, no fuss.Guess I'm ready for tax season 2010 in 2011.

          Called 800 number

Just got someone to answer 800 number.
The person told me that they are backed up but I should receive a welcome email within the week.

            Expiration of PTIN

At least I'm done with that part for another year.
I went online 9-29 and paid the fee on that date, but the IRS web site did not show my PTIN until today, Oct 4. Prior today the PTIN status was shown as "Open."

Mine expires Oct 31, 2011. I guess I'm lucky that they did not issue my PTIN immediately or it would have expired in Sept. of 2011 instead of Oct.

The whole process took 20 minutes. I got the original # and they took my money.
                Case closed

They had trouble with my name since sometimes I use my initials and sometimes spell out the name. They had trouble with my zip code since I used the zip plus four and they only wanted the five-digit code. I entered my name as it appeared on the tax return with both my wife's name and mine and had to drop her name. They are real nit-pickers. The first day I tried, they kicked me off after three attempts and told me to come back the next day.

It isn't easy dealing with the IRS. It's easier to prepare a tax return than to deal with them.

I tried to register last week, but never got the email with the password. Then today I retried and it said that log is was already used, so I said I forgot, and they said they were mailing me a new password, no e-mail yet, I seem to be stuck. Has anyone else had this problem? I gave them a password when I filled in my name, but it does not work.

Same problem here, as I am the second on the tax return, the system cannot recognize me.

                          Irs Ptin

As of today, the IRS won't accept my application because their program does not recognize my zip code! The help line is worthless and they hung up on me. The program still has many flaws. Someone should be held accountable for this but of course it is the Government so it is not accountable to anyone. If we ran a business this way, we would be in prison.

I was ready to file using a W-12 but a senior IRS agent said that was not the advisable way to file. They would rather have you try the computer which doesn't work.

the password almost always ends up in the spam folder. I asked for a second one and finally found the first and second in the spam. of course the first one would not work anymore.
but after that it only took a couple minutes.

                              Still no e-mail with password

I still have not received my e-mail with a password. It is not in my spam/crap folder either.

I have used 4 different e-mails with no success.

I have tried to reuse the e-mail, saying I forgot my password and I was told that one was one the way. Not there either and I checked my spam/crap folder again. Nothing.

                                Bulletin

For what it is worth NAEA, issued a Bulletin last week that suggested to allow the "Agency and its vendor" to iron out any kinks in the system. Maybe waiting another week or so for "them" to address some of the system's "undocumented features" as in "bug"

So with that I am on hold!
