    Give 'm Hell

IRS Plans to Survey Tax Preparers
Beginning in mid-December and running through February 2008, SB/SE will conduct its annual survey of tax professionals. This phone survey (voluntary, of course) is designed to gather the opinions of tax professionals on their experiences with filing federal tax returns and dealing with the IRS on behalf of their clients. Up to 9,000 randomly selected tax professionals may be contacted by the survey contractor, Pacific Market Research (PMR), to participate in the survey.

Those selected will receive a pre-survey letter from PMR and SB/SE Commissioner Kathy Petronchak providing further details and a contact point to answer any questions, followed by a telephone call from PMR to complete the actual survey. SB/SE plans to use the opinions and experiences collected in the survey to improve its services. NAEA has been asked to let the membership know that SB/SE would appreciate your cooperation and willingness to participate in the study.

I wish Congress would do a survey on itself.

I could not participate in a survey on Congress

because my vocabulary is not sufficient to explain how much I detest the institution. Also I am not sure that the Science of Polling has come to a place where it can accurately measure the low opinions Americans have of Congress. Remember it wasn't that long ago that Gallup did a telephone survey and predicted a landslide vote for the Republican Candidate running against incumbent FDR. (The problem turned out to be that most people with phones were wealthy and the wealthy tended to be Republicans.) I realize that the pollsters are giving Congress record low approval rates but I still say that some error is raising the reported scores. I claim that fewer than one onehundredth of a percent of Americans approve of Congress as a whole. I have nothing but the feeling in my excessively large gut to back that up but it's what I believe.

Please elaborate further on just what Republican candidate that was?

What I remember is that FDR wons hands down each time. Perhaps you're
thinking of the 1948 race? that was Dewey, the overall and odds on favorite whom
Harry Truman beat. never will forget the picture of Truman holding up the Chicago
      newspaper which proclaimed "Dewey Wins!"
Or Truman's imitation of H V Keltenborn (sp?) predicting his political demise.

I wouldn't doubt that that newspaper is still in town.

The news is so very misleading and manipulating. I don't trust much of what is said in the papers, radio, or any other source. Sometimes it is even hard to trust the candidates themselves when the appear in person.

The debates on TV? Horse pucky I say. They pretty much exclude the "other" guys from them, you know...by allowing them to be present, but they never really get to field any of the questions. In effect, the debate sponsors are taking the liberty to narrowing our choices for us. Well, I want to make my own choices for myself. I don't need those idoits help.

I think it might have been Al Smith but I am not sure. My whole point is that the Poll said the candidate whose name and year I a not sure of would beat FDR but the actual election results were FDR in a landslide.
