I always knew Yanks were a little strange, but this is weird. I just did my first Minnesota return and it turns out that if you stay up there for X (183) number of days, you may have to file as a MN resident even if you're not a MN resident -- they don't care if you live in Arkansas or Timbuktu.
It's sump'n about whether or not you stay long enough in a place that's got a bathtub (shoot; and I thought we were "bad off" down here).
P.S. I don't really begrudge it to them for tryin' to collect a few extra tax bucks, though -- they showed some of the houses they live in up there on TV last year and, I swear, I never saw anything like it. We've got shacks down here too, but those pore folks lived in little-bitty huts built right on top of lake-ice (lot prices must be outta sight) with just a hole in the middle of the living room for a latrine. So anyhow, I guess they have to make up for it wherever they can.
