I know you and Brad are doing the best you can with this problem, but I think you're absolutely wrong in solely chastizing Bob for using a specific word (spammer). You talk as if he was attacking an innocent bystander here, while you completely ignore the overall effect of CJ's words, tone, manner, and general attitude with which he managed to insult just about everybody on the board in one way or another (worse than a mere "mild" label). This brings to mind those PC situations in which form outweighs substance.

    Consider those remarks:

sheesh...c'mon people, I have prepared...and am ready to send it soon
Seems an unjustified sense of entitlement and/or obligation to me. After all, we're not employees he's paying for a "rush job."

gee thanks dan...and by the way...it's "run" not ran" wise guy
A bit sarastic, isn't it? And ingratitude for looking up those code sections? Too, "wise guy" is much stronger than "spammer."

    ...one could infer...impatience...none was intended.
I once had a client whose ex-wife was always saying "I love you" while kicking him down the stairs.

Black Bart...poker tips / shudder to think of...Oxtrainer
I have no idea what these mean, but I'm assuming they're derogatory.

...I have to wonder how those having difficulty (understanding my posts) ever get through tax code
    We're all dumb?

    ...run across this, dan...
I assume there was some accompanying attachment or avatar, etc.

I don't know if CJ's a spammer or not (I kinda think not), but I don't blame Bob a bit for being upset about an unwarranted reprimand directed expressly and only to him instead of deservedly to the other guy. Bob's an extremely knowledgeable and valuable poster who certainly deserves our (and your) support in preference to that of brash arrogance...well, I guess I'd better stop there, but you get the idea, I suppose.

Hey Bart, personally, I would rather be called a wise guy than "a spammer", now them's fight'n words! I realize that I was pretty abrupt in my inital reply, and 2 wrongs don't make a right, I apologize for that. Also, I realize Brad and Paul are trying to give everyone a fair shot as they referee our gun battles here.

It's time to let this thread die in peace.

Shall I ban Paul two days for yelling at the wrong kid?

Here’s the rule. If someone starts a fight, don’t try to finish it. Ignore them and send me an email. Many of you already have my email address. If not, click on my name and there should be an option to send me an email.

I will edit or delete the offending post, and ban the person from posting if the offense continues.

          feels great to be home

Boy I've been gone from this board for a few months and nothing has changed.
Snag and Black Bart and the gang are still going at it.

I am just getting wound up for another exciting tax season now that football season is almost over with. As you all know I only work when I feel like it, ( or when my wife catches me).

I'm looking forward to learning some more about taxes this year, (so I can forget it by July), but thats another issue.

Frankly, I'd rather see this board limited to tax professionals helping other professionals.

              what irony...

when most people think of the IRS they think..." i'm guilty till proven innocent." so here in a forum of tax pros who represent these "guilty till proven innocent" clients, i find it an
egregious irony to feel as if i've been tried and convicted on such evidence as, and i quote..., a "seeming unjustified sense of entitlement"...."a bit sarcastic"...."i'm assuming they're derogatory". after i apologized to cpadan for something i never intended in the first place and he said he didn't mean to be a wise guy and wished me good luck, i thought it was over.....WRONG....i was insulted several more times by those reading "tones", "derogatory assumptions", "assumed avatars" into my posts...while never referencing names and insults aimed at me to which i was only responding. i seem to have disturbed the calm waters of accepted behavior and "tonalaties". i have posted many times previously when "unregistered guest" was allowed, so i am not that new to this board. however it seems i have violated the strict rules of behavior this year here in dodge, and must be run out of town. i'm sure none of you taking umbrage with my "attitude" would mind being labeled a "spammer" with "no useful purpose in life". sorry to have intruded on a "seeming" good ol boys club state of mind held by some around here this year. for the record, I had the first OVERT not "SEEMING" insult hurled at me and from that point on was only responding to further insults and mischaracterizations. I PLEAD NOT GUILTY...Black Bart's closing arguments notwithstanding. where is Mr. Smith when you need him?(as in mr smith goes to washington for the younger members here). i really am in too much cybershock to respond further and my tongue is bleeding from me biting down on it. WOW

Ken great to hear from you in Tombstone Territory! Wondered where you've been.

Sorry you had to post in the middle of this ridiculous thread. This one has turned into kindergarten - judge for yourself who's guilty and who's not, but when Brad and Paul have had enough, they'll flush the toilet.

                  only sea-tax

                  >>enough of this<<

CJ won't win any contests with 30 posts over two threads, but it's been a respectable run for two and a half days. The OP was actually a pretty good riddle, and of course there's major bonus points for getting posts deleted by the moderator! (Mine was one that went down, and rightly so because I was skirting the edge of my niceness pledge.)

Hey, if anybody is getting tired of this line, I'm still trying to get my own controversies started up. No disclaimers this time--I abandoned that because the results were ho-hum. The only real discussion that was generated was on the one that was true, so from now on that's my standard. The first one is called "get your boss arrested," which I hoped would catch somebody's fancy, but so far only sea-tax has nibbled on it.

I don't like it. And I don't think it's wrong to "stick up" for what you think is right or avoid a disagreement by labeling it "childish."

Yeah, Bob jumped the gun calling the guy a "spammer" alright, but whichever side one falls on ("old boys' club" or "Young Turks"), he's earned some latitude and respect. And, like Forrest Gump, "that's all I have to say about that."

                      Opinions noted an accepted.

Bob, you and I go way back many years. Don’t leave…you are one of our long time quality contributors to this board. I’ll make Paul send you flowers or something.

Cashjunkie, I haven’t deleted your posts…yet…so don’t assume you have been tried and convicted of anything. If someone attacks you, I will deal with it. I appreciate your prior contributions as an unregistered poster. I suggest you prove your innocence by making quality contributions as a registered user.

Cpadan and Zee, thanks for trying to smooth things over. Can’t we all just get along?

Black Bart, I admire your sense of justice. You have every right to defend Bob for getting yelled at for something he didn’t start. You are correct, he has earned the right to be shown some respect.

                      Paul, quit picking on Bob.

Jainen, you are one of the intellectuals on this board. Your thought provoking posts make this message board unique. Please do not ruin your reputation by trying to pass off bogus posts as fact. If you want to make it interesting, why not post two sets of scenarios, one truth, one bogus, and have us try to guess which is correct?

Snag, I may have to give you the keys to this board so you can help Paul and I manage the playground fights.

Ken, welcome back. How’s the weather down there?

                        Brad.....

....... at this time I have nothing to say that would be constructive. So, I'll leave it at that.

                        Added later:

But I will say "thank you" to all of you that had nice comments about me.

This board is important to me, as it is to all sole practioners. It is my home page. I have been on other boards, mostly to learn, and just could not get into the posters there for various reasons, mostly attitude. Attitude of the people I associate with on a day to day basis determines who (where) I stay around. When a situation like what happened comes along, I say to myself "here we go again". This is MY home and I don't like it. In the end, I choose where I live. We will see how the future goes. But I am not letting one poster change my mind, yet.

Posters that come on a board should show respect and not act like the board OWES them an answer. The answers usually come, if there is one to give. Part of the respect is how they present their questions. Confusion of a posters I can deal with because that is part of the posters problem, but creating a hard to read
( not hard to understand) post is disrespectful to the board. I had my fill of disrespectful people in my 64 years and I have no patience for it.

I would rather flite than fight when it comes to message boards.

Too many questions in one message

A lot of unanswered questions are the type in which someone posts a dozen questions in one message.
If I could answer eleven of them but the 12th one was something I couldn't answer, I might not respond because of number 12.

Also, even if I could answer all 12, it might take too long.

Some questions require research and if I thought I needed to do the research for my own practice, I might take a stab at it, but if it was research solely to answer a question, I probably wouldn't.

Others probably don't answer for similar reasons.
