Must you copy OR scan copies of the 1040 Return and w-2 and 1099's etc. or "neither".

Off the top of my head I don't recall the exact rules, but there are items you're suppose to keep. Either copies of the returns or a list of returns you prepared, the 8879, copy B of the W2. The requirements for EROs are clearly spelled out in Pub 1345. The W-2/1099 forms showing withholding need only be kept to the end of the calendar year the return was efiled.
