I have had two clients who filed both 2018 and 2019 with a balance due who were able to enter bank information. One received payment on 4/22. The other now gets "You are eligible for the payment. Once we have your payment date, we will update this page."

What about e-filing an extension for 2019? No tax due on 4868.

Thanks. I haven't seen this one!

          Yes. I've seen this too.

I kept getting "payment status not available". I was just now today able to enter my bank info.

Please enter the following information from your 2019 tax return (filed in 2020) if you already filed. If you have not filed your 2019 tax return or it has not been processed, please use the information from your 2018 tax return (filed in 2019).
Apparently, if the 2019 return has been processed they want it from 2019, but if not, they want 2018. Of course, you don't always know if 2019 has been processed.

PROBLEM STILL: HOW DOES ONE ANSWER IF received a "REFUND" or "OWED" when THE CLIENT APPLIED THE "refund" to the following year estimated tax payment!!!!

It asks for AGI and does not ask if 2019 or 2018, then it asks if one received a "REFUND" or "OWED" but not if THE CLIENT APPLIED THE "refund" to the following year estimated tax payment!!!!

RESULT: will not recognize and asks one to start over WHETHER they place the amount applied to the following year or entered 0, rejects it, and asks to repeat the process until one tries 3 times, then kicks you out of the system, and then states to wait 24 hours to try again!

                    Hopefully they fix this.

Apparently, they expect you to know which year to use for AGI & Refund/Balance Due (whichever one they have most recently processed, perhaps, but they are the only ones who know that).

Your other point is part of a larger problem. Some people have a filing requirement but neither a refund nor a balance due. They give an application error each time you enter zero until your third strike.

How could they not realize that some taxpayers neither get a refund nor have an amount due (rhetorical question)?

wait, didn't you just say in the other thread that instead of trying a workaround, people should just use the get my payment site? Make up your mind, is it working or not?

As I mentioned in the other thread, it worked today for taxpayer with neither refund nor balance due. Client clicked on "Refund" and entered "0" as the amount. Not sure if it would have worked if they had checked "Balance Due" but that had not worked either.

Yes, and I STILL suggest going to Get My Payment. However, people have been reporting some successes, but not all successes, after the first of three nights of updates and maintenance on the system. So, I suggested waiting for the next two nights of IRS work on the system and then trying again.

I don't know if it is working yet for a specific situation your client might have, or not. That's why I suggest waiting until the IRS finishes this round of maintenance and updates. If he/you have the time, try it each day if you prefer.

I want my clients to wait, not to call me every day, all day, that it didn't work for them and now they're locked out for the day. I want them to have the best chance of success with Get My Payment. In the meantime, I'll have prepared a couple more 2019 returns.

Correct suggestion. The system was updated the other day to allow those who filed 2018 with an amount DUE to enter bank information.

However, as of this a.m. it is not updated yet to allow those returns showing the REFUND was applied to the following year estimated tax. Maybe an update for that issue might happen.

As of this morning your second situation is working for me. I applied my 2018 refund to 2019. Went in to Get My Payment this morning. Clicked balance due (NOT refund) and entered $0. It then went through to asking for bank details. So try clicking balance due and entering $0.
