A client filed tax returns for 2018 and 2019 and owed taxes in both years. Therefore, there were no routing or account numbers on the tax return for direct deposit. The client asked me to input the necessary information so he would get a direct deposit and not have to wait for a paper check. I opened the IRS website and clicked on "Get My Payment" and entered the four pieces of information (soc. sec.. #, date of birth, street address and zip code). I was then directed to a page to answer additional questions and input the required bank numbers. It worked fine and was accepted.
A second client in the same situation asked me to do the same thing. After inputting the first four pieces of information I received a message stating "we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time." I confirmed the information with the client and inputted it several more times, receiving the same message. Has anyone else had this issue? A call to IRS would be futile.
