Hello. I have a unique case that I hadn't dealt with before, so thought I would come to other professionals here. A client (U.S. Citizen) will receive $100,000 as inheritance from his dad in Guatemala. The dad is still alive, and he is a national to Guatemala, not a resident to the U.S. My questions(s), is this considered inheretance per IRS since the dad is still alive? Is it reported as a gift or inheritance and is he subject to taxes? Per my research, form 3520 might need to be filled out just for informational purposes. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
