    Foreign Gift/Inheritance

Hello. I have a unique case that I hadn't dealt with before, so thought I would come to other professionals here. A client (U.S. Citizen) will receive $100,000 as inheritance from his dad in Guatemala. The dad is still alive, and he is a national to Guatemala, not a resident to the U.S. My questions(s), is this considered inheretance per IRS since the dad is still alive? Is it reported as a gift or inheritance and is he subject to taxes? Per my research, form 3520 might need to be filled out just for informational purposes. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

If gift is more than $100k (reference IRS form 3520)

It is not an inheritance if the father is still alive. It is a gift.
