    Areas Of Interest

Oh, stop complainin' -- I'm tryin' to get this dang thing launched, but it's too smart (or sump'n) for me -- never could do much with machinery and I'm still tryin' to figure out how to turn that cell phone on and off. Anyhow, if your AOI is not included in the list, then just post it below (note please: NOTHING about religion, politics, or sex -- those in flagrant violation will be banished from the board for 30 minutes or until they cool down, whichever comes first).

To turn my cell phone on, you have to press the "OFF" button. To turn it off, you also have to press the "OFF" button. I'm not sure what the "ON" button is there for.

Maybe you will ban me from the board now BB. I voted for the last one because I really would have like to vote for more than one. You see, I need education in more than one area.

You are doing go though. I would even know how to pull of poll (don't tell me now, I am ignorant).

By the way, when I had to use a cell phone the first time (about 4 years ago), I was all by myself. I couldn't figure it out so I ran next door the subway and asked the kids.

They did that in response to Windows. To turn off Windows on your computer, you press the "START" button.

I suppose it was some kind of a reverse inside joke the cell phone people were trying to make.

This is the type of topic I like.

            The something else.

I would like to see more posts on things I don't know. I can't tell you what they are because I don't know them yet.

I personally would like to hear more of BB home spun southern stories of interactions between him and his clients. Those stories are always good for a laugh. Keep up the good work BB

The computer seems to work similar to a cell phone. I have to click on "start" to turn it off.

Wish we could get a larger

number of voters in order to see what people really want.

A 22-vote turnout seems small for this board (200/400 members, I think). I've read that Gallup and others say that, occasionally, some of their polls are statistically invalid because of low responses -- meaning the percentages vary widely and wildly as a result of only a few votes. An example would be the 5% difference between 990 and 1040 -- that's a substantial percentage movement caused by a single vote and thus, not necessarily or truly representative of the overall majority.

                    Well BB,

I didn't vote as none of the choices seemed to fit. I would like more info and guidance on each of those forms, just particular areas.

                    Examples would be:

form 1065 or 1120S "Basis" and that dreadful Balance Sheet that never wants to balance.

form 1040, mortgage interest deductions (refi's) equity loans, how to determine what is deductible and what is not

form 1120S anything you can post

any entity form and unicap rules

form 1041 I am sure there are a lot of questions

So maybe we could revise the poll by form to see where, the area of interest is?

I do have to say tho, if I had voted I certainly would not have chosen the last one, for the birds, go play in the traffic.

                    Sandy

In order to turn off your computer--you have to press the START button to START the process of shutting down your computer. Now! Does that make sense?

You make it sound like some government instruction.

"In order to turn your computer off, you first have to start the process by filing these forms in triplicate with your local computer turn off agency. Once the process has been started and all proper documents have been submitted, we will notify you within 3 weeks whether your computer qualifies to be turned off..."

I voted "something else, post below".

We need a "ALL OF THE ABOVE" button, added just before the last item about the birds.

                            too significant?

                            >>a substantial percentage movement caused by a single vote<<

Black Bart, please expand on your observation. Are you saying that my vote -- which I am still eligible to cast after analyzing the early returns -- should not be considered significant because it is too significant?

                              Point of interest? Practice Management

I know we shouldn't discuss specifics on fees, but how about ideas on fees?

How do you bill 1120's for instance? By the hour, by the flat fee, by what?

How do you bill monthly bookkeeping? By the hour, by the number of checks/data entries on the computer, by what?

Or do you use the "SWAG" method of billing? That is the "Scientific Wild A** Guess" method!

Do you use engagement letters? On tax returns, each year, or just when they sign up as a client? What about monthly bookkeeping clients?

During the interview do you use a checklist or some sort of interview sheet? Does the client sign?

Do you have the client sign off on a statement regarding vehicle use? What does the statement look like?

What are you doing to avoid "preparer penalties"?
