    Self employed health insurance

Spouse retired but has self employed taxpayer's health insurance deducted from her monthly retirement check. Is this self employed health insurance or because it is thru her former employer not deductible? Hers is entirely paid by state, but his is deducted every month. ERS

As long as they are not a pre-tax deduction from retirement plan, they are deductible.

COMPLIMENTS to you for understanding what was posted. Read it quite a few times and still do not understand e.g., "Is this self employed health insurance or because it is thru her former employer not deductible? Hers is entirely paid by state, but his is deducted every month"

If Hers is entirely paid by state, hers gets a deduction? Is Hers is entirely paid by state mean like one of the 50 US states or is state a company?

Same here. I could not decipher what the poster was trying to describe. It did not make sense. "Self-employed health insurance" is not deducted from a retirement check. If she pays after tax for HIS health coverage through her former employer, then it is deductible on Sche A.

I don't think this would qualify as self-employed health insurance for that deduction. It would go on Schedule A, as others have said.
