1099 error; box 7 for renting farm land

My client rented his farm land and got a 1099-misc w/ $9,100 in box #7 instead of box #2. How should I handle this? I'm considering putting it on schedule C and then netting it out with an explanation on the other expense line. I'll then put the $9,100 on Schedule E. This way I'll be able to e-file his returns before 10/15 and we can track down the 1099 preparer and try to get them to send in a corrected 1099. Will this work? TIA.

Yes, this will work. You "probably" will not be able to get the payer to correct the 1099 for 2012. Maybe they will do it correctly for 2013.
