My client rented his farm land and got a 1099-misc w/ $9,100 in box #7 instead of box #2. How should I handle this? I'm considering putting it on schedule C and then netting it out with an explanation on the other expense line. I'll then put the $9,100 on Schedule E. This way I'll be able to e-file his returns before 10/15 and we can track down the 1099 preparer and try to get them to send in a corrected 1099. Will this work? TIA.
