After countless efforts to get TP to file a 2009 tax return, he chose to give me most of the tax documents but not all. The state sent an arbitrary assessment and took a nice piece of his $. I told TP let's file actual return to dispute this arbitray assessment and get most of his $ back.
Now- IRS for some reason has not caught up with him yet and I'm wondering " Should I file a 2009 Tax Return anyway?" This is predicated on him cooperating and providing the information for me to complete an accurate return.
He will owe taxes so it would be better for him to come clean so to speak and get this filed than not.
I don't know if the state would accept this filing well past the 3 year statute but since a return was never filed in the first place (much to my chagrin) what is lost here if we don't try?
Anybody have a similar situation?
Thanks,
