    Client Copies, save paper

Hello all. I'm looking for relatively inexpensive ways to save on client's copies of tax returns. I am trying to go as paperless as possible too. I still have the clients that want the folder with pockets and a paper copy, etc. I have asked clients, and most respond positively, when I ask them if they would rather just have an electronic copy.

I checked into CD-Rs, but my goodness, the ones with the labels are not cheap ($2 a piece!!). I thought about a flash drive but the clients (like me) probably will misplace those little things. A few clients, this year, told me just to send them a PDF of the return.

Anyone here all paperless and do you have any tips? TIA.

Set up a secure drawer and send them electronically. We switched from CD's to almost totally portal returns last year. Sorry, but I'm not privy to the costs.

Most clients will go with it as they can then securely send and received documents to you.

I suppose it would be a good idea to have the drawer/portal accessible from our website; we have some technic catching up to do! Thanks for the info.

          PDF File Size

What is the your typical 1040 client's return copy PDF file size? Mine averages around 800kb.

I think password protected/encrypted attachment to an e-mail may be preferable in most cases. Hate to waste a CD or a flash drive for less than 1meg file.

It would be a waste to use 1mb on a 700mb CD-R or a 1gb flash drive. Good point. Thank you Mac for the website! All is appreciated.

NSA, North Korea, China, Russia, and Iran to name few have no problem with password encrypted emails.

              Did I mention France?

I seriously doubt these countries are interested in my client's tax return!
