This is probably of no use to anyone but I have always e-filed the 8332 and kept the original signed copy my the client file. I also input all information on the Sch D. I figure if the client is going to play with his/her investments....they are going to pay for the info being included on the Sch D rather than attaching or sending the investment summary by snail mail.
Neither of us have ever gotten a notice from the IRS asking for the original 8332 or further investment documents.
