My clients expect my fees to go up a little each year, just like everything else. The only complaints I get are from clients whose situation changed enough to warrant a noticeable jump in fees, and when I explain that, they usually get it. I don't send a letter notifying clients of a fee hike, and not sure they'd even read it if I did. I only send one letter out a year (except I do mail them all Christmas cards), and that is the letter with their tax organizer, and I can tell by the questions they ask that most of them didn't read the letter.
