My client married a woman in 2011 from Brazil who has been issued a number xxx-xxx-xxx by USCIS (formerly the INS). Since the numbers are not separated as social security numbers are, do you know if they can file a joint return with her number? If so, I believe it has to be paper filed. Never had a case like this. Thanks.

I'm told it is just a reference number. She and hubby are meeting next week - final appointment to get the green card.Comment

If issued, the green card will allow her to get a real SSN (I think). So either apply for the ITIN now, or go for an extension in the hope that the green card and subsequent SSN will arrive in time for the Oct. deadline.Originally posted by Greenbriar View PostComment
