My client married a woman in 2011 from Brazil who has been issued a number xxx-xxx-xxx by USCIS (formerly the INS). Since the numbers are not separated as social security numbers are, do you know if they can file a joint return with her number? If so, I believe it has to be paper filed. Never had a case like this. Thanks.

Do you have any idea what that number is? Could it be a visa number? It sounds irrelevant, but evaluating it based on where they put the dashes is silly.
