I wish that there was a box on the W-2 that the employer was required to show what the employee's W-4 showed.
You know, M-0, M-9, S-8, whatever.
And the same with retirements on 1099R's.
It sure would save me time explaining to the clients why they owe taxes on the large W-2's/1099R's with large $ amounts and very little Withholding.
I can back into what I think the W-4 shows, but that takes time, and most won't believe me.
Especially when the wife gave herself a raise without getting a raise! Changed W-4 from M-0 to M-4! And hubby is already M-4. And they have only 2 kids.
