    E-Filing and Estimated Tax Payments

9:00 PM and using Pro Series.

    Client filing joint, Standard Deduction.

Very little income this year. No Tax

Paid in four $1,000 Federal Estimates this year. All paid in 2011.

    Refund would be $4,000.

I am getting a Pro Series error messege that says " Estimated tax payments cannot be greater than taxable income for electronic filing"

I guess it means I cannot E-file if the amount of estimated tax payments exceed the
    taxable income.

I have never heard of this. Anyone have any experience with this crazy situation?

    This is not possible?

        Over ride

Might be an over ride to project 2012 Projected Income

If you have a $ 4000 refund are you requesting that be paid to the Taxpayer or applying to 2012

I don't use Pro Series Software, but in my software I can over ride the amounts for ES for the upcoming year and adjust the income up or down.

ES payments should not have anything to do with meeting the efile requirements - At least I don't think it does

Personal choice, directly related to sticky at top of page. I feel uncomfortable commenting further.

I am now strongly considering a "read only" approach to these boards, but (for now) I don't mind providing answers to people asking a question to which I can, within my own knowledge base, accurately respond.

Tax season, for my type of clients, is now beginning to accelerate so I will not have that much spare time to spend around here anyway.

And I will also not miss some of the pettiness I've recently encountered.

            Back on point.

It used to be, maybe still is, that federal withholding of more than 50% of income precluded efiling.

E-file with refunds and no taxable income

I just called the Pro-Series Technical support line. The advisor said that if the return has no taxable income and has a refund due, you can't e-file. I never heard of this so I went back to 2010 and this was not the case. The advisor suggested this may be a new law.

I have spent an hour looking for this "new law" and have found nothing.

Anyone heard of such a deal? I think it is incorrect on the Pro-Series.

Have you tried calling the IRS "Practitioner " help line to see if they will answer you? 1-866-860-4259
Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".

                  Remember

Remember that credit that had seniors filing who didn't otherwise have a filing requirement? We had to put in $1 interest to efile, per my employer at that time, HRB.

                    Hotline????

I just hung up from the Tax Practitioner Hotline.

The first gentlemen just said "it is your software" and there is no one that He can transfer me too. He put me through to the procedural line.

The procedural line had a recording that said I will be on hold for a long time.

I think I will just paper file this return.

The specification for efiling are in publications, 1346 comes to mind. There is an efile help desk available and that place can answer your question. Our practitioners' hotline never knows abut efiling. it's not in their bailiwick.

ProSeries does not allow efiling when overrides are included in the return.

Have you checked the program help for this issue? ProSeries also has an online chat which might be helpful. Perhaps you could convince them to delete this requirement unless your research finds that it is an IRS requirement. Have you checked the E-FILE pub from the IRS?

Didn;t see this when I posted. At least we know it is not an IRS e-file issue. I say go directly to ProSeries to see what their thinking was on this and whether they would consider deleting this requirement.

Ah, but it IS an efile issue as I pointed out previously.
