As I stated before I am fairly certain what the difference was between my prep of the return and the block prep. However I can't be certain becasue I didn't see a copy of the return because the client didn't want to pay the fee to block. But let me tell you this it was a very straight forward sch c . 1040, scha , in home office , 2106. I have done 100's of these over the years.
Like I posted before the block prep either omitted the se tax or failed to take the proper % on the in home office. Hell the client client only had 5 expenses and the 2106 was one of them.. Look I am not trying to beat a dead horse but at 11:30 at night when I am working my *** off trying to do a good job for my client , while providing them some creditible hard facts , it just pisses me off that there are people in this world that take the resposnsibility of tax preperation, with such a careless attitude.
I take my job very seriously and when I see people holding themselves out to be pro's when they can bairly figure the most simplest of return correctly, it just upsets me.

The c ompany has definitly changed since the Bloch brothers were in charge.

That being said, I agree that some of out preparers are not the best, but I have corrected returns brought in by clients from CPAs and other private tax professionals. In my office, we have two new tax preparers and eight who have been with Block four or more years. They are all very good. When we have difficult returns, we discuss it with each other.

Some of you ask why I don't go out on my own. First of all, I'm retired (a physicist in my past life) and like doing taxes. I certainly don't do it for the money, although I believe I should be paid a reasonable salary (this is why I would never work during the off-season). I am not a saleman, and don't push products. I just like the challenge of doing taxes. I would not want the responsibility of running a business. In retirement, I have another life. I am taking two music courses at the local community college, and I play in a band (hammered dulcimer). Every summer and fall, I take tax courses, many more than required to continue working at Block. My life is very full, but I enjoy preparing tax returns. I can do this at Block without the responsibilites many of you have.

GOOD FOR YOU, GARY. Yes, it was very easy working for someone else, the buck stop with them, but now with my office it's all on my desk. It gets really thick with responsibilities looking for me for all the answers.
But talking about H&R Block, I have a lot of clients come from there this year or last year and they say the same thing. HRB don't ask them questions, don't do expenses (Sch A), and charges very high for them to owe fed and state. I then have to redo it or amend the return to get their expenses on it and get some money back, plus not charge them an arm and leg for it.
But, you're right, they are a proud and few good people there. So stay and help the ones that need you. Proud of YOU!

I'm wondering why there would have been a 2106 with a Schedule C. Were there wages as well as unreimbursed employee expenses?

The 2106 was for the wifes job. However on my program you enter in auto mileage for sch c on the 2106 input screen and it carrys over to the sch c

                      Gary,
Except for the music, you and I are almost in the same boat. I went to work for HRB after I retired because I wanted to do taxes. I also take many classes above that required for rehire. And, yep, we have some dummies ---also have some pretty darn good tax folks too.
