    Ugh EFTPS Payroll

I had to sign one of my very last payroll clients up for EFPTS to meet the new payroll deposit requirements, "a real diehard" thinking that everything is a scam and government control trying to get a hold of his checking account.

At any rate, we signed up in late December, and didn't receive PIN # to sign on for the Jan 15 payroll deposit, I had him make a phone deposit. Still nothing from EFTPS, so had him call again to make phone payment - now EFTPS doesn't even like those. In searching the account EFTPS has an address that is over 4 years old - the Chg of Address form has been filed with IRS - but EFTPS doesn't believe us, and refuses to give out PIN# on the phone or resend the PIN# to the updated address.

EFTPS says we have to initiate another form 8822 with IRS to change the address and this can take up to 6 weeks, and EFTPS will not accept another phone payment (so it was told to the Taxpayer).

I am having Taxpayer sign POA for the payroll tax returns and can process through E-services - does anyone know if that POA is good for EFTPS?

Does any one know a faster way to change and correct the Taxpayers address on the account, so we can receive the PIN# for EFTPS in time for the 3/15 payroll deposit deadline?

Of course I am to blame, as I am NOT doing my job as his quote/unquote Professional

    Thanks,

    Sandy

    Deposit dilemma

A couple of long shots maybe...

(LS-1) If you pull up an 8822, check on the back under "Purpose of Form" and its says "The IRS automatically updates your address of record based on any new address you provide the U. S. Postal Service..." Don't know, of course, if this is any faster than EFTPS doing it.

    (LS-2) Found this:

A blog about tax savings ideas, tax planning, bookkeeping best methods, QuickBooks, managing your business, and business ideas.

Check out the second paragraph discussing an FMS alternative to regular deposit by sending direct payroll payment via wire transfer to US Treasury at your local bank. Click on "Same-day Wire Worksheet." Possible stumbling blocks: (A) Fair chance the bank clerks don't have a clue "how-to" even if you present them the "wire payment form" (B) your conspiracy theorist client won't go along with more bank shenanigans even if it will work.

About the POA, only thing I can find is on IRS' 8655 "Reporting Agent Authorization'
it says "Any authority granted on Form 8655 does not revoke and has no effect on any authority granted on forms 2848 and 8821..." (Don't know whether to take that as a positive or a negative).

The other is from IRS website "Reporting Agents File (RAF)" (if you are one -- I don't like to be) : "A reporting agent authorization may co-exist with Forms 2848 and/or Forms 8821 which are recorded on CAF." Again don't know if this means yea or nay to your question.

Sorry for the weak response, but I'm outta practice (maybe pray for input from NYEA),

Got all my clients switched over except one, and it's the same mess you're going through. I've requested the pin 3 times now. First they issued one for the bank initated withdraw, then they didn't send anything at all. Hope third time's the charm.

Sandy, I had a problem with a client's address when I signed up last year. I was advised by EFTPS to(and did) fax in another POA to IRS and EFTPS, that also has the box marked for "special use" and wrote in" verifying of taxpayers address". I don't remember how long it took to resolve the issue after I did this but I think it was rather immediate (happened in summer)

        Good luck.

My problem client and I had this conversation.

Her:"You didn't send me a coupon to take to the bank."

Me: "Coupons are passe. Instead you will send a check quarterly".

"But I prefer to pay monthly . Can't you do that on the computer?"

"Your payroll tax is only about $115 per month. Why not just wait?"

"Because I had rather pay IRS monthly."

"You'll need to get registered with EFTS to do that"

          "Then that's what I want."

"What about your $ 16 for monthly w/h amount to Alabama?"

Do we have to do that electronically?"

          "Nope."

then I'll just use the monthy coupons and not pay online until they make us do it."

          (phone hung up)

          Me: sigh.
