    Moving Expenses as Education Credit

I have researched this and believe that I am correct . My client has a fair amount of moving expenses to move her son out of town to college. She asked if this would be able to be used as a deduction. I think that it would not quality as any education credit nor can I find any other way to take a deduction. He is claimed as a dependent

    Agree with you

The cost of sending child to college is not a deductible expense. Not part of his education costs and he isn't working so no moving expenses.

      Very creative approach, however...

      .....NO !!

In theory, deductible moving expenses are related to the "costs" of getting/keeping employment. Going to college does not quite fit into that category.

Just curious: What would you have used as "old" and "new" work locations in order to meet the required distance test for Form 3903??
