    Form 2848 POA

    Get this, I faxed the form to the IRS while they are on the phone. They received it and then allowed me to discuss my clients 2006 tax return. Couple weeks later my client receives a copy of their POA stating the Tax Preparer (me) was suppose to complete and sign part 2. In part 2 it seems "h" would apply to me but "g" may also apply since the taxpayer is my "in laws".

    This "jurisdiction" is rather confusing though it mentions "state". I prepare tax returns in all 50 states so what does the IRS want in that box?

    g=enrolled actuary
    h=unenrolled return preparer

    Are you any of these? EA? CPA?

      My error

      Instead of G in part 2 I meant to say "f". Not CPA, EA, Officer, Attorney, Full time employee etc.....either f or h.

      What about the Jurisdiction?

        I am a CPA and so for me the jurisdiction is where I am licensed to practice. Perhaps for you, it would be the state of your residence?

          Finally, by George,

          a question that I can handle. Although I've been using my EA number instead of the state (figured that was probably what they wanted) and it's always gone through with no problems, I've been curious about this too and never checked it out for sure.

          That box is apparently a catch-all for all the different folks: For "F - Family Member," write in your relationship to the taxpayer. For "H - Unenrolled Return Preparer," write in your state abbreviation (that's what I used to do before I got a license).

          How do I know all this? Why, by dint of thorough, exhaustive, and painstaking research of course (Googled "Instructions Form 2848," looked on page two, and there she was).

          Feel free to refer all deeper problems.
