When it answers, your responses (assuming you want English) are:

      1 - 1 - SSN - FS - EX

      Where
      1 chooses English
1 chooses last year's ESP amount
SSN=The Social Security Number you are looking up
FS=The number of the filing status used last year (1, 2, 3, 4, or 5)
EX=The number of exemptions claimed on last year's return.

Thank you for posting this number ...

I tried it to make sure it worked. It is a much slower process then using the website (of course after you listen the first time you probably can cut in and bypass the chit chat .. but am very glad to have it to use when or if their website goes down again.

Everyone remember way back when we had to call in to see how much advanced child tax credit everyone received. I knew there had to be a phone number to do it again this time.

So far I have had ONE client who actually brought me their paper that they received showing how much their stimulus was even tho I told EVERYONE to make sure they put that paper in with their tax papers. (I knew they wouldn't) LOL

          Don't Ask

I don't even ask the client. I go immediately to the IRS web site and check. Today was the only time I had problems getting results.

            Checking at the IRS Site

First time delay tonight, but was only for a few minutes.

Good thing I am checking, as working on 2 clients tonight, and the amount that they provided were totally wrong!

If you use Pro Series the expected amount is in the program...you only need verify with the client to be sure the amount is accurate. taxea

Looking at the pricing on ProSeries, I'd think it should be able to read the client's mind without even bothering to ask...

                    Clients are not accurate

I have now asked 107 clients how much they received. About 1/3 had no idea, 1/3 wre wrong, and 1/3 were right. Sorry, I check them all. $10 per.

I found out that this cannot be relied on. Have a client, estimated by ProSeries $600, actually received $900. I will check each and every one unless they bring me the papers.

For reasons stated above this is why I do just as Gary does! I've noticed intermittent outages with the online look up, but it hasn't been too inconvenient and still is nice.

I agree. The reason for the high error rate is because 75% of people aren't good with numbers in the first place. The remaining 30% are OK with numbers in general but they're careless with percentages.

                              IRS Rebate Website

I have my secretary access the website and print the rebate amount BEFORE the client come in.

Most have no recollection of what they received and some have said they didn't receive anything. The website has proved them wrong.

I do add a token fee of $2 to print this as it takes less than 1 minute.
