Audit Finished ~ Waiver of Penalties

What are some options to help get the penalty waived with an appeals officer? The tax payer did have actual expenses that were not well documented so there is a pretty big tax due of over $15,000.00

The taxpayer has a long history of complaice and all income was reported. The appeals officer was not overly helpful and suggested we review IRS 6662.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

They repainted the ceiling in the tax office.

Bjorn, is the penalty on the taxpayer or on the preparer? The taxpayer, I would think. But was the compliance of prior years brought to anyone's attention? Is it worth the risk of looking at prior years when that might actually increase the scope of the audit?

By now you must have reviewed code 6662 and formed an opinion.
It should work given good record in the past.
