    E Filing & Deceased Taxpayer

When e filing a tax return for the survivng spouse (husband died in 2005), do I need to follow up by sending in an 8453? Or, am I safe just keeping the 8879 in my files?

I have always just used the 8879 and have the spouse sign that as surviving spouse. Have done that for 8 or 10 with no problem.

To add another angle to your question, How about no surviving spouse, just a daughter.
There is no estate, no will etc. Who signs in this case? The daughter as administrator?

For the daughter, etc., if a refund is due need to file 1310. Our s/w only allows 8453 and not 8879. I just had one tonight so it did 8453.
