Medical research study income se tax

Medical research study income shown on form 1099-misc in box 7 "non enmployee income." Is this type of income subject to SE tax? Not much info on IRS site.

No trade or business. Just a young man trying to make some extra money.

What was the nature of the income? Reimbursement of time and expenses?
Did the client engage in this "work" on a consistant basis? How long did the study last?
How much time was the client engaged in this research? Did the client sign a contract with the company or perform any services?
My bet is it goes on line 21 and is not subject to SE tax. taxea

since it's probably a one shot deal.

But for those who regularly "donate" blood at local commercial blood bank, I would
argue that is se income, since it's a regular activity pursued for monetary gain.
Even if the "gain" is used to buy wine. grin

No trade or business here if the activity is not regular, continuous, and substantial thus not SCH C or subject to SE tax.. If it wasn't totally reimbursement of expenses then it may need to be report on Ln 21 as other income. taxea
