    1099 correction

    Error on Social security #. I know I need to use a 1099 and write corrected on it, but do I
    one with 0's and another with the correct ss # --Do I mess with the 1096 at all. Amount does not change, only ss#

      You need to do a corrected 1099 with the incorrect SSN showing "0." Then do a new separate 1099 (do not mark "corrected") with the correct SSN. If you do not do this, the guy with the old SSN will get letters about unreported income. Attach a separate form 1096 to each and mail separately.
