Tax Stimulus after filing amended return

Does IRS issue a larger tax stimulus payment after an amended return is filing increasing
the tax liability, if a larger tax stimulus is due ? My belief is that IRS will not and that we can claim the difference on the 2008 tax return. Has anyone seen anything indicating otherwise? My client received a $958 tax stimulus payment since that was their tax
liability. In April I prepared and they submitted an amended return which increased their
tax liability to $2688. It appears they are entitled to a rebate of $1200 or $242 more than
    they received.

Good question. Likewise, if an amended return reduced the tax liability, reducing the amount of the rebate already received, will the IRS deduct the "overpayment" from the additional refund on the amended return?

The Service software developed to identify, compute and issue the stimulus refund was developed in a hurry and is currently based only on the original return filed amounts. I doubt they will ever develope it to the point where they can track it to subsequent amended returns filed. They have other problems on their priority list right now.
