Well I've had about four people come by the past two weeks about the Stimulus Rebate. All owed on their tax returns and did not mail payment until right at April 14 or 15. It appears as soon as the IRS got their tax return showing they owed the rebate was applied against it. So I've had a good time calling the tax practitioner hotline. Each one they applied the 2007 payment to 2008. Even on my personal return they deducted interest from my stimulus rebate. Ugg! I hope no more come in.

And computing the rebates didn't get underway until last week of April, with a staggered
schedule starting about May 9th I think of mailing out checks to those of us who owed
money. For example my (well, our) check won't come until July.
What on earth for did they deduct interest from your rebate?ChEAr$,

Yeah I efiled all of them. One customer's check cleared April 23 and they had sent the payment certified. They received the letter June 2 about them taking the rebate. Its really strange.
On mine I filed an extension and did not pay enough in during the year. So I had some additional interest. Filed return middle of May.

It's probably my fault.
I had a half-dozen clients who owed whom I told to short-pay the IRS and let the rebate apply to the balance due. Those 6 clients probably confused the IRS and now they're messing up everybody's returns.

I did the same as you, paid via EFTS about April 9th, but awaiting rebate in July (high #)
Guess I'd better check my account with eServices.ChEAr$,

my return
I efiled my own return in March, mailed a check for the balance due on April 15th, and have received a stimulus check for the full amount. Our check was in the first batch of checks mailed out (hubby has a low number!)
Maybe the problem has something to do with the service center the original return was sent to??? Maybe one service center messed up?
I, too, have been receiving many calls concerning the stimulus - UGH!!!!! Congress really knows how to throw a wrench into the system!! Clunk - clunk - bam! LOL
