What is a Certified Tax Preparer?

I sent email to NSTP asking about their "certification" programs.

Response I got was,

"NSTP did offer the CTP designation in the past. Unfortunately the program has been discontinued for 10+ years now. We currently do not offer any certification program."

I hadn't realized it was that long ago. My, how time flies "when you are having fun," or is it "as you get older?"

For those of you who have not heard of NSTP http://www.nstp.org/index.html - it is an organization similar to NATP. http://www.natptax.com/

Both have excellent information, seminars, publications.

Mail Order Minister

Sounds like a mail order minister. Pay the fee, maybe take a sham course or exam, and get the title.

No federal or state regulation. No continuing education.
