    Lost Refund Check

    Good Morning,

I am trying to assist a client who has yet to receive her refund check. The return was directly filed to the IRS as a direct deposit....but the bank rejected the deposit and the return was converted to a paper check.

To make matters worst, I miskeyed the client's zip code which has now caused a delay via the post office.

The return was filed in the middle of February and still no luck.

Is there anything I can do to assist this client and/or is there anything I can do as the preparer to assist her in receiving her funds?

    Thanks

Have you checked her refund status at the "Where's My Refund?" page on irs.gov? There's usually a phone number & extension there to track a missing refund. You can also try calling the Practitioner Priority line.

seems to be about the only remedy for these things, or at least I haven't found anything to speed up the process. They'll get around to you, but by the time they do, your client's generally sick of you, IRS, and the Post Office. I've got one going now that I filed 3-4-07 with the wrong address (taxpayer didn't inform me of the change and still sort of halfway thinks I should have somehow known) and he hasn't got it yet. To make it worse, he had a change of address on file at the Post Office and they sent it back to IRS anyway, so he and the Postmaster (public service is not her cup of tea) had a nasty little spat yesterday.

Here's a couple of numbers which you may have already tried:
      1-800-829-4262 (Ext. 277)
      1-800-829-0582 (Ext. 462)

Sorry, but misery loves company and you have some.
