Is the $600 per person automatically reduced to $300 if couple amends return to Married/Separate instead of Married/Joine?

      Not the Question

Sandy I realize that, I'm simply trying to focus on numbers for client. Let me rephrase, so as to focus on the numbers.

If an original return has never been filed, and taxpayers elect to file separately, does the range of $300-$600 per person still apply, or does the MFS status reduce automatically to $150-$300? From everything I've been able to find out, the range remains at $300-$600.

        Snaggletooth,
The answer is NO--each still would get $600.00--if AGI meets the limit, etc.

See IRS website for calculation using MFS.
