On the software, this form is prepared automatically. When it is sent in and approved, the date is automatically entered on the form. The client is gone at this point. I believe they are required to have a copy of the filled out form. How do you handle the paperwork on this?.

I give it to them if they request it. No one requested in 20 yrs. But I do keep a copy of it in my folder. This post is for discussion purposes only and should be verified with other sources before actual use.

Oh I think it is an added service the client appreciates. After I get the IRS acknowledgement, I mail the 9325 to the client with a yellow highlighter telling the date their return was accepted, and the approximate date their refund will be mailed or direct deposited. I think my clients appreciate getting that information.

I give them a copy in most cases, but I cannot find a requiement for it. It seems to me, it is just a nice form of our ACKS that we receive. I went through 1345 and copied below what we are to give to the client.
Providing Information to the Taxpayer
The ERO must provide a complete paper copy of the return to the taxpayer.
However, the copy need not contain the social security number of
the paid preparer. A complete copy of a taxpayer’s return includes Form
8453 and other paper documents that cannot be electronically transmitted
and a printout of the electronic portion of the return. The electronic
portion of the return can be contained on a replica of an official form or
on an unofficial form. However, on an unofficial form, data entries must
be referenced to the line numbers on an official form. Also, a printout of
the electronic portion of the return does not have to be provided to the
taxpayer if the taxpayer provided a completed paper return for electronic
filing and the information on the electronic portion of the return is
identical to the information provided by the taxpayer. The ERO should
advise the taxpayer to retain a complete copy of the return and any supporting
material.
The ERO should also advise the taxpayer that an amended return, if
needed, must be filed as a paper return and mailed to the submission
processing center that would handle the taxpayer’s paper return. Refer
to the current year’s tax package for addresses.

Mail
I always mail a copy to the client, if by chance I did parents and children I put them all in the same envelope. I think it is just a confirmation that I did indeed file their return and I have earned the fee they paid me. I'm not sure most people care one way or another but for 42 cents it looks good.

Caution on emailing info. Unless the client requests it or you use a password, email can be intercepted. Any tax document with their name, Social Security number, and address is confidential and we need to make sure the client is the one requesting the email and not simply us trying to avoid paying 42 cents for postage.
