The question was "How much time will he spend in jail?"
Under federal sentencing rules, an inmate will get 54 days per year for good behavior. So, he would spend over 2 and a half years in a federal pen. The federal rules, unlike some states, are rigid and there is no compromising them.

He may stay out for a while, during appeal, but it doesn't seem likely that the verdict would be overturned.

As for an OIC - forget it. The IRS would refuse to grant it acting under the best interest doctrine. They will have levies issued with every movie company in the US. If he earned some of his money in states with an income tax, they will be after him too. This guy will get no mercy from the tax people.

Judging the reason behind the outcome of the fraud trial is pure speculation. Unless you were to take the time to read several thousand pages of trial transcript, you just don't know what went on. The media will distort and spin the facts to sensationalize the case and offers commentary about something they are hardly qualified to write about.

Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. I've talked with people who swear we don't owe taxes because they have read websites and conspiracy books about this stuff. It comes down to the fact that there were typing errors in the actual document and they feel that this means it was illegally voted upon. Well geeze, that's nice.

I think he'll spend about 2 1/2 years as was stated. He'll also be in a heck of a lot of really bad movies when he gets out of jail to replenish his checking account.
