    Obtaining the EA designation

I am a licensed CPA in NY who is working to grow a tax practice on the side. Is there any reason to obtain the EA license, as I already have a CPA?

I am an EA and the only reason that comes to my mind is to study for the test just for your own sake since you will be learning a lot about taxes. The license might not be too important although it will enable you to represent clients all over the US.

If you know a lot about taxes already you might just be fine as is.

      National designation

Yes, that is one key difference in CPA license and EA. Enrolled agent is a national designation....good for any state.
So if you moved, you would have to take another CPA exam but you would still be an enrolled agent.
