Thank you to everyone for the advice and information on my previous post (client wants to file 1099's now). I decided to go ahead and file the Fed. extension for guy #1 (#2 didn't call me last night). Guy #1 is going to get his papers together and come in for an appointment sometime next week. We're going to start with tax year '07 and then look into tax year '06 after that. I've never been a person to get money down before, but I'm going to be sure to get some this time. I think it's only fair.
Something funny:
Guy#1 calls last night and says that he for sure wants to file the extension. He tells me that he "thinks" he'll have me do his taxes. Mentioned that even though his other tax lady was kinda "skittish" that the thing he had going with her was that she was good at burying stuff and saving him money on his taxes. I asked him how much money he was saving by being audited. I told him that I do things pretty much by the book and that when it's all said and done, he may not have to constantly look over his shoulder as he does now. I then told him about his burden of proof and how it's unlikely that his last preparer will have any responsibility for his return because ultimately he signed it and agreed that it was correct. He didn't have much to say about that.
Here's the kicker: He calls me back about 1/2 hour later and says he's sitting around having a beer with his dad (client of mine for 3 years now). He wanted to tell me that his dad had been talking about me ever since he had hung up the phone from the last call. Apparently he had only good things to say (I have to wonder what those "things" were in their full context). He said he's going to "fire" the other gal and go with me for sure now. I told him to tell his dad "thanks" for the recommendation. He then hands the phone to dear old dad while saying "here, tell him yourself".
The guy is 3 sheets to the wind. Just hammered! He was slurring his words so bad I could barely understand him. I repeated my thank-you. He then began carrying on about how great I am and so on. I hear the son talking and laughing in the backround at his dad(by the way, son is 34, dad is 55). I then ask the dad "does Donovan have anything else he wanted to tell me?" and then I hear the son say "tell her I'm going to be a challenge". I say "bring it on". They both start laughing and I say goodbye.
What have I got myself into? LOL By the end of last night, I was the one who needed a drink! Two glasses of wine after 9:00 and I slept like a baby.
Thanks again for the members of this board. The support and advice is priceless.
