wrong entity type when applied for EIN

New client, started operations in 2007. When they applied for an EIN, they marked the "Sole Proprietor" box, but they were actually a partnership since the start. Form 7004 (extension) is being filed, specifying the EIN and form type of 1065. Is there anything else that we need to do, or can we just go ahead and file the 1065?

    For openers

Did they file the necessary paperwork if any with their State in order to come into existence as a partnership? If so when did they do that?

I just had a similar situation and was told by the IRS to mail back to them the coupon that comes with the EIN confirmation letter and mark the changes.
