    Amending to add a Roth?

I am going to amended a 2007 tax return to add a Roth. Obviously this will NOT change the tax return numbers so what forms need to be mailed into the IRS?

    Roth IRA

You may not need to amend anything at all.

In some cases, Form 8606 may be required, particularly if there was a Roth conversion or a recharacterization.

But if it's a clean and simple Roth contribution, it doesn't appear anywhere on the tax return. The contribution will be properly reported to the IRS by the financial institution, which will issue a Form 5498 to the taxpayer around the end of May.

There's nothing to amend, because there's nothing to report.
