National Guard member paid recruiting finder fee ..

$2000 paid for recruiting finder fee on 1099 Misc. in box 7 non-employee compensation. This was a single enlistment of a new Nat. Guard member.

So: does this rise to the level of a trade or business subject to SE tax?

No big savings here but I'm thinking the case could be made it does not.

You can check out the thread for a little discussion. I think it's facts and circumstances for each case that will determine. In my case I did schedule C subject to SE tax.
