Who claims a joint state refund if the couple is divorced the next year? Is it the person whose SS# is listed on the 1099-G?

The refund (or the taxable portion, if less than the entire amount) can all be reported on the H's return, the W's return or divided in any way they wish between both their returns ... presumably the same way the refund itself was split when received.

I remember researching this question years ago and found somewhere that each
taxpayer is supposed to report HALF of the refund. If memory serves me correctly.
