    IRA Contribution/Amend?

Client originally had me deduct for a IRA for spouse for $3000. Return was filed. Now he finds out that because they also have a ROTH that the contribution has to be $1600 for taxpayer and $1400 for spouse. Does the return have to be amended?

Good question since the result hasn't changed. I am going through that right now with no change (for other reasons) and deciding whether to amend.

I was advised on this board to file if it protects the client's interests like Capital Loss carryovers and I did. I would be inclined to do one if you think it may cause them any problem later but since no change do it after tax season.

Line 32 just says "IRA deduction". There isn't a separate entry for filer and one for spouse. Therefore, if the dollar amount hasn't changed, the return hasn't changed. If the return hasn't changed you certainly would not amend it.
