    no SSn for spouse

    I sure hope someone who can answer this is about this morning.
    TP got married last year, and they're already separated. He doesn't have anything with her ss #. We have to file MFS, What will happen even with paper filing?

      You are correct that the return cannot be filed electronically.

      Leave the field blank, and attach an explanation. Or do what my software does: in the field for the spouse's SSN, write in the word unable.

      Better hope neither one of them owns a home. If one of them does, good luck determining whether his wife itemized.

          That's exactly what I did. And he had a lot of medical expenses this year, so HE itemized.
