    Rebate credit for dependent

Do I have this correct? The rules that qualify the dependent are the same as the rules for the child tax credit.

Thanks for confirming or pointing out my erroneous thinking.

Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".

        Well, I''m lookin',

but I can't find any info on it other than they have to be a dependent and under age 17. Where'd you run across it, Burke?

A lot of things about this rebate biz aren't so clear to me. For instance, I was thinkin' (up until a day or two ago) that a single guy with no kids and a tax liability of say, $195, would get back the minimum of $300 plus his $195 tax owed for a total rebate of $495. Not so -- accordin' to what I'm now reading, the $195 is absorbed by the $300 minimum and he'd have to have a tax liability of at least $495 to get $495 and a tax liability of at least $600 to get the maximum $600. Have I got all that right (maybe don't tell me if not, 'cause there's no tellin' what I've said about to all those pore innocent souls I've fixed 'em up for)?

I think you are right in your figuring as far as I understand it. But I thought it was 10% of the refund, subject to a minimum $300, maximum $600 for single persons. I have avoided telling anybody anything definite for that reason except for the mailing schedule which came out. As for the dependent qualification, I have seen it in a number of places, probably first on the NATP website, as well as subsequent updates. But in checking my Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 file where I print out such things, I think you will find it on the IRS website as well.

          (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article...179181,00.html) for FAQ's, page 3.

          My print-out is dated 2/25/08.
