Client and wife are in the middle of a divorce.If they file an extension as MFJ, can they later file actual returns as MFS May or may not be speaking at that point.

MFJ Extension
Yes, I believe the extension would be considered valid for both spouses, even if they later file separately.
But good luck allocating any payment that might be made with the joint extension.Burton M. Koss
