Bees, I told you I would

ask my wife to check with her interns as to if they do or don't prepare their own taxes. She did ask them Tues evening. There are 5 of them. Four said they used Turbo and one said he took them to a pro. Then they got into a discussion. The one that takes his to a pro, told the others they shouldn't be using TT because there are too many issues in their lives to rely on TT. And so forth, back and forth. My wife noted one Dr said she is going to continue to use TT and when she get out into the public and has a good income, she even intends to build her own house!! Hows that for DIY? My wife says they're a great group.

      I read it. Good story.

I have a doctor client who use to do his own taxes. One year he had some complicated issues and decided to see me. He has been my client ever since.

I think professionals in particular sometimes think they are too smart to need the services of another professional. Doctors often make the worst patients when they themselves need medical services.

        Engineers

Nearly ALL engineers use TT. Know more than anyone.

World's greatest authority on every subject. And a disaster if you ever have to go behind one and clean up a return.

          Snag, I

know EXACTLY what you mean. I've got some and had more. Don't want anymore either!

A school maintenance person just left here. Said he's going to do his own next year as they are very simple. I said good for you. What are you going to use for receipts? He said just what he gave me. I asked him if that was it. He said yeah. I said you don't have all the receipts necessary here today. If you did your own taxes, they would be picked up in an audit for lack of entries in places and you may end up owing penalty and interest. Could be more than what I charge. His wife glared at him and said no, we'll be back next year.

            Doctor

Well I lost a Doctor client of mine this year to Turbo Tax. Her analogy was that she had less investments to deal with, so that was not an issue for me to have to prepare her taxes anymore.

She still has a rental, employee business expense, etc. So we will see how that turns out, maybe she will be back in a year or two.
