    email scam

I just got this email (yes it included the spelling error):

After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have
determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $2839,49.
Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 3-9 days in order to
    process it.

A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons.
For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.

To access your tax refund, please click here

The IRS has a policy of not contacting taxpayers about refunds, balance due, etc. by email.

We could all do a big service to our clients to providing them a warning about these email phising scams and other phishing scams. More inforation is at the following IRS website page:

    Beware of phishing schemes

As you noted there is a spelling error. Not uncommon for a non-native english speaker. After big undersea earthquakes in Asia, the spam an phishing scames drop dramatically so you can figure where these items are coming from.

Thanks, Roberts. Saw your post this AM, then a client brought a copy of the email she got- just like yours. Looks very official- the IRS logo on the blue background.

This page from IRS website has info on phishing, and an address to forward scam emails to IRS.

My client almost feel for it...

I had a client last year call me who received an email she thought was from the IRS and wanted to know why I messed up on her taxes and she should have received a larger refund. I told her that the IRS in no way shape or form will correspond with you via email. Only physical letters. As if I have time for this non sense.

          They are getting bolder

I saw this a couple years ago only for a few hundred. A client called me yesterday with one about this amount.

Other parts of the world do it this way; signals the writer isn't from around here.
