    Death Gratuity Payments to Survior

    Taxpayer is a military widow. She receives a monthly death benefit payment since her husband was killed when on active duty.

    I believe this monthly benefit should be included on her tax return this year to qualify her for the stimulus payment. I see that on the IRS website it says that certain payments from the Veteran's Department of Affairs qualify for this.

    What do you think - does this income qualify her for the payment?

    Qualifying income. The term qualifying income for purposes of this credit means:
    • Earned income,
    • Social security benefits, and
    • Any compensation or pension received under chapter 11, chapter 13, or chapter 15 of
    title 38 of the United States Code (disabled veterans’ and widows benefits).
    It appears to qualify. The law itself says compensation received under chapter 11, chapter 13, or chapter 15 of title 38 of the United States Code.
